On July 6, we begin a new sermon series through the book of Colossians. It’s an extended series of 14 sermons that will take us all the way into October, Lord willing.
So, what’s Colossians about?
While the entire Bible points us to Jesus Christ, the book of Colossians gives us as its core, the centrality and supremacy of Jesus Christ. In a nutshell, this sermon series is all about Christ!
The book of Colossians contains some of the most theologically deep words concerning Christ, such as “He is the image of the invisible God” (1:15). But the book also has a practical bent with words like “put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony” (3:14). Colossians combines both deep theological truth with practical wisdom for Christian living that continually points us to the centrality of Jesus Christ.
New Testament commentator, Douglas J. Moo writes:
“Paul uses his teaching about Christ in Colossians especially to make the point that Christians find all they they need in him… [and] that genuine spiritual experience can be found only in Christ.” (The Letters to the Colossians and to Philemon, p. 63).
Ultimately, it is by our union with Christ that we are able to fully live out the Christian life.
